The Tale of Peter Rabbit

July 11-12, 2025 (1:15-3:30 daily); performances begin at 1:30.

Peter Rabbit's adventure comes to life, with an in-the-garden reading of this classic, featuring Beatrix Potter, grouchy old Mr. McGregor, and imaginary rabbits! “The Tale of Peter Rabbit,” a story about an encounter between a watchful gardener and a hungry disobedient bunny, features the unfortunate day when a very mischievous Peter becomes lost in Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden (the “Peter Rabbit Garden” at Petals in the Pines). The chase is on!

After each performance, families can participate in some hands-on seed starting, learn to sketch like Beatrix Potter, play in Petals in the Pines’ award-winning Arbor Day-certified Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom, walk through the “Peace” children’s labyrinth, and pose with the characters for a photo.

Kids can make mullein-leaf "bunny ears" to wear; guests are encouraged to dress up to fit the theme and era of the Peter Rabbit story. Performances will be held rain or shine (except if a thunderstorm or tornado threatens!), so you may want to pack a parasol--we will also have our post-and-beam pavilion and pop-up for shelter.

Light refreshments are included: decaf sun tea, blackberry mini-muffins, and Swedish Almond Cake (also available for sale).

NO PETS, please.

Tickets are limited, and performances begin promptly at 1:30. Refunds are available only if reservations are cancelled more than 48 hours in advance.

$7.00 / kid,    $5.00 / adult. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.

WEATHER UPDATE: We know this has been a challenging season for outdoor plans, with all the rain and sudden storms. We're going to make all British gardeners (like Mr. McGregor) proud, by holding this event rain or shine. We have a pop-up and a post-and-beam pavilion for getting under cover. Come dressed for the weather, and bring your brolly (umbrella) and wear your wellies (rubber boots).  We'll only close for thunder and lightning--and we'll reimburse ticket holders in that case. All who have reserved tickets will get a confirmation email the day before your scheduled event. We'll make a decision on holding the event by 11:30 the day of, and email you if we decide to cancel. Thank you!
